Privy and Dump digging

Hi I was wondering how to get started in privy digging or dump digging. I am very interested in learning how to locate them and what tools to use. I have found a couple of websites but nothing really explaining what to look for or what to do. I do a lot of detecting in Resaca,Ga and have heard a couple people talk about some civil war dumps sites on the property we are hunting. I have always been interested in old bottles and glassware and thought it might be fun to try at least once or twice depending on how well I do. Any info would and will be grately appreciated.
