The New Whites PI

I knew it would be a special weekend when the DIV Hunt site was announced. With some of the worst soil on the planet having a quality ground balance PI was gonna insure plenty of relics would find there way into my pouch. I saw Garrett's, Minelab GP'S, and the three Whites Prototype's used by myself, Bob B. and Keith Z.
I think I can make this comment being the only hunter on the field who has used all three brands at the hunt site over the span of two seperate hunts. The ability to manually control all adjustments was the kicker for me. The prototype was digging relics at will, at and around old holes. Curious detector users were asked to check signals I had pinpointed, only to say they could not hear it or it was iron.Wrong! I had one guy comment that I was going to dig a ton of iron with a PI on this site. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I dug six bent nails in three days. Why? The iron content of the soil exceeded the iron content of most small nails. When I ground balanced the detector the nails went out along with the ground.
A byproduct of ground balancing pi's is you get two tones based on size and conductivity of the object detected. When relic hunting low tones are large brass and iron targets, most minnie balls. High tones are coat and cuff buttons, pistol bullets and melted lead. A large high tone is usually flat iron pieces of mid size and tin. Great for finding huts and trash pits. The price of the new Whites has not been determined to my knowledge. It will be more then the Garrett and hopefully less than a Minelab GP. I will never use a VLF detector while hunting severe iron ground, ever. More info to follow.
